Dentures - Complete, Partial, & Custom
Fort Worth, TX
If you are one of the tens of millions of Americans who are missing some or all of their teeth, then you should know that restorative dentistry offers powerful options for rejuvenating your smile. One of the most affordable and easiest to use are dentures. HomeTown Dental at Belknap offers both complete and partial dentures to address the widest possible variety of oral healthcare needs.
If you have ever seen a movie with a full set of teeth floating in a glass of water, that is what complete dentures are. Complete dentures are designed for patients missing all of the teeth on both their top and bottom jaw. In some cases, we might extract any remaining teeth so the dentures can be held firmly in place by forming a seal with the gums. Another type of complete dentures are similar to dental implants, tiny metal rods inserted into the jawbone anchoring the dentures in place. Implant-anchored complete dentures offer superior, long-term reliability and durability, but come with a higher price tag.
Partial dentures are built on the same basic design principles as complete dentures. Unlike complete dentures, though, partial dentures are for patients who still have healthy natural teeth remaining. This type of denture only replaces some teeth, but this can still have a transformative effect. Missing even a single tooth can make it easier for the rest of your teeth to drift out of place, changing the shape of your underlying facial structure and making it increasingly difficult to talk, eat, and smile.
Are Dentures Right For You?
Without the opportunity to meet you in-person for a consultation, we cannot say for sure if dentures, either complete or partial, are the right option for your oral healthcare needs. Even so, there are a few traits which can help you decide if you are a good candidate for either type of dentures. Patients who still have most of their natural teeth, and those teeth are either healthy or can easily be restored, are ideal candidates for partial dentures. Patients who are missing all of their teeth, or whose natural teeth are severely decayed or too damaged to be treated, will find a complete denture most restorative.
What You Can Expect When Getting Dentures
Getting dentures is typically a process that takes multiple visits to our office, though same day options do exist. During your first visit, one of our dental experts will perform a comprehensive exam and work with you to decide which type of dentures, either partial or full, are best for you. If full dentures are chosen, then extractions of any remaining teeth may be necessary. You will get temporary dentures while we make a mold of your mouth to base your permanent dentures on. Having dentures requires a bit of an adjustment at first, so be sure to have plenty of soft foods on hand for the first couple of weeks. Once your permanent dentures are done, we will bring you back in and place them!
